Situated on the corner of 3rd and Broadway across from the Million Dollar Theatre and the infamous Bradbury Building , it is hailed as the 2nd oldest building in Downtown Los Angeles. Designed by Sumner Hunt and built in 1985 , it is notable for it’s Spanish Colonial/Beaux Arts architecture that is evident in it’s intricate terra cotta detailing , arched entry way and windows .

The Pan American was formerly called the Irvine Byrne Block Building and was home to the Mexican Consulate during World War II .
